WELCOME TO THE THE HOUSE OF WAX

Automotive

Many years ago I started my dream car project, a 1957 Porsche Speedster tribute. All along the way I hit hurdles, challenges and an abundance of people ready to overcharge and deliver poor quality work. What was to be a $20,000 complete mechanical package, with a reputable mechanic in Perth, that was to take 3 months ended up being $50,000 and took over a year later.  Then the panel beater quoted the job as $16,000 and what was to be 4 months took 2.5 years and cost $26,000. The moral of the story is that self builds end up taking many many years, costing double to triple than anticipated and the quality is barely acceptable.  This was just one of many reasons why I formed The House of Wax Automotive.  To offer people the chance to have an exceptional vehicle, that will not only appreciate as an investment but can be enjoyed and valued.

The passion ignited

Being a boutique car maker means we have the design and flexibility to create truly original pieces.  One custom car nearing the final stages is a 356; the design brief was essentially to make a gorgeous body with the strength of a tank.  To achieve this we widened each of the four panels by 15mm to broaden the stance, without flaring the natural lines.  With double the body density and inlaid with kevlar the final result will be remarkable.

FAQs

What Models are available?

At present the Phoenix Speedster is the flagship model. Spectacular looks, superb drivability and everything you could wish for. Completely rebuilt and shortened chassis, new floor pans, with a Sub-frame that ensures premium protection. In most cases Ball Joint front end, collapsible steering column, IRS rear suspension and period correct new or reconditioned engine and gearbox. The Phoenix 718 is also available on order currently, with the longer body chassis again completely rebuilt with the same options as the Speedster including the manual, full automatic or semi automatic transmissions. The Phoenix GT66 is expected to be available nearing late 2024.

What time frame is involved in the build?

At present the 356 Carrera and the next Speedster is due to be released in March 2024. Orders are also open for the 718 RSK with a timeframe of 6 - 8 months. It is dependent on the Engine and Gearbox choice as that can alter the time frame. However, there are a limited number of spaces for the turnkey builds each year and once the quota for that year is met no further places can be made.

How does the engineering work?

Logic would dictate that in the same country the same road rules apply. In most cases they do and this also applies to the registration of the vehicles. The differences lie not so much in the engineering requirements but in the individuals at the Roads Authority. Each car is built to beyond the engineering requirements in each and every State of Australia. And each car is tested for drivability, stopping, lane changing, body rigidity, torsion beam strength and many more aspects. This report can be supplied with the sale to give to the engineer in your State as it can be a guide and Master Report for the assessment. Given that every State of Australia has already successfully registered multiple Speedsters the precedence has been already determined. From the position of the engineering, all requirements for the reinforcement and structural improvements to the body are exceeded.

What is the Warranty?

On all cars there is a 6 months warranty on all major mechanical components, engine and gearbox.

How close are the Tribute range to the Originals?

The Phoenix Speedster and Phoenix Carrera range are the exact dimensions as the originals. The same dimensions apply for the Phoenix GT66. With the Phoenix 718 being customized to improve drive and comfort.

What Engine and Transmission options are there?

For the Phoenix Speedster and Phoenix 718 we offer the 1.6 right up to the 2.6 litre Volkswagon and 1.8 to 2.6 litre in the Porsche engine. Transmission options include the Manual, full Automatic and the Semi Auto clutch less (no clutch pedal but still contains a gearstick). The Phoenix GT66, whilst keeping the original feel to the interior, utilises a full electric battery and motor drive train for maximum torque.

What payment methods are accepted?

For a complete turnkey ready vehicle full payment is expected. For a vehicle ordered there is a 40% deposit at the commencement of the build.  With a 30% payment once the engine and gearbox are rebuilt and the final 30% on completion of the vehicle.

Do you build left hand drive cars?

At this stage we are focusing on right hand drive vehicles.  We do anticipate that in 2024 to 2025 that we will be taking some orders for left hand drive cars at that time.

Do you ship your vehicles overseas?

Yes we are able to ship vehicles to several countries worldwide. We can also work with your freight partner to arrange transport.

What level or return investment is expected?

There has been a consistent high return on investment with cars of this type and collectible status over the past 10 years. For example a Speedster Tribute in 2013 cost $50,000, that same car is now $90,000. With the added bonus of being able to enjoy the investment, everyday it's at home and especially when it's on the road.
